Dan ran three Magic and Origami workshops for kids this week at De Montfort Hall in Leicester. The days were a great success, with the budding magicians going home having learnt and constructed some amazing magical effects.
Headfry have moved to the Level 1 venue at De Montfort University Student's Union for more magical mayhem. Gigs are on the 9th of October, 13th of November and 11th of December. See www.headfry.co.uk for more details.
Dan was invited to perform in the Zina Bennett Close-Up Competition at the International Brotherhood of Magicians convention in Southport. He missed out on the top prize, but really enjoyed his first experience of international competition.
Another fantastic show at Jongleurs brought Headfry's run of shows at the venue to an amazing climax. The Leicester Mercury said:
"The appropriately titled Headfry team returned to Jongleurs on Tuesday night for the third installment of their mind-blowing close-up magic show, an innovative blend of no nonsense illusions, gags and one-liners provided by four of the region's top professional magicians. With stunned silence as commonplace as applause and roaring laughter, the fifteen minutes spent at each performer's table prove hugely entertaining, utterly bamboozling even the most dry witted of cynics." Dan visited BBC Radio Leicester to astound morning show presenter Tony Wandsworth with an impossible card prediction. You can hear the full interview or just listen to the prediction. The listeners also got involved via the Headfry website and one lucky listener won tickets to the September Headfry show at Jongleurs.
The second Headfry show at Jongleurs in Leicester was another sell-out with the audience enjoying the close-up magic of the Headfry team. The evening was brought to an amazing climax with the Magic Face-Off and a chosen card appearing in a window across the street! Full report at the Headfry website.
The opening Headfry show at Jongleurs on Tuesday 5th July was a sold out success. You can read a report about the night on the Headfry website. Thanks to everyone who came along and for all the really positive feedback.
See you all again on Tuesday August the 2nd for more mind-melting magic!
Dan performed at the launch party for this year's Summer Sundae festival at De Montfort Hall. Guests included the sponsors and partners of the festival, which was officially launched by Steve Lamacq from BBC Six Music.
Dan wins the Leicester Magic Circle Close-Up Magic Competition for the second time. Judge Mike Gancia said: “This is one of the best close-up club competitions I've seen. It was very close, but if you look at the modern trends of magic, particularly corporate entertainment, then there was one person who edged ahead and that was Dan Gifford.” See the news item on www.magicweek.co.uk.
The website has been updated and has more information about Dan's recent engagements, including some great feedback from his clients.
